How Do You Account for Unmodifier Rolls of 6 Automatically Wound in 40k

The new Infiltrator Space Marines have a funky little bolter that automatically wounds on unmodified hit rolls of 6s. This is quite unusual in how it completely ignores a unit's Toughness and the weapon's Strength.

I made this chart, comparing Infiltrators to Tacticals so I could visualize the issue.


Infiltrators reliably create more wounds than other Str 4 weapons against every toughness, with production even VS T8. AP Modification is probably more important in most scenarios. Because it is AP0, it's easiest to compare to the Tactical Marine.

Here's the equation, and the equation of force multiplication:
  •  The Variables:
    • x = Number of Shots Required
    • y = Number of Successful Hit Faces
    • z = Number of Successful Wound Faces 
    • s = Number of Unsaved Wounds required
  • We're not using AP in this equation but it can be easily worked in
  • Equation A - baseline: 
    • x * y/6 * z/6 = s
    • ie needing 20 wounds, BS3, Wounding on 4+
    • x * 4/6 * 3/6 = 20;
    • x = 60, you need 60 shots
  • Equation B - the Infiltrators
    • (x/6) + (x * (y-1)/6 * z/6) = s
    • ie needing 20 wounds, BS3, Wounding on 4+
    • x/6 + x*3/6*3/6 = 20
    • x/6 + x/4 = 20
    • 2x/12 + 3x/12 = 20 
    • 5x/12 = 20
    • x = 48
  • The Force Multiplier is the results of Equation A divided by the results of Equation B
    • 60/48 = 5/4

To summarize and make this universally understandable:
For unmodified rolls to hit of 6 causing a wound automatically with no need to roll, the force multiplier depends on the class of roll required for damage and the BS of the Shooting Unit.
  • For BS3+:
    • 2+ To Wound has a force multiplier of 21/20
    • 3+ To Wound has a force multiplier of 9/8
    • 4+ To Wound has a force multiplier of 5/4
    • 5+ To Wound has a force multiplier of 3/2
    • 6+ To Wound has a force multiplier of 9/4
  • For BS4+
    • 2+ To Wound has Force Multiplier of 16/15
    • 3+ To Wound has a Force Multiplier of 7/6
    • 4+ To Wound has a Force Multiplier of 4/3
    • 5+ To wound has a Force Multiplier of 5/3 
    • 6+ To Wound has a Force Multiplier of 4/1 
I'll calculate out the rest later. It's almost like the Infiltrators were meant to wound Plague Bearers with Toughness 5.
